Tom and Jerry is an animated cartoon series produced by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer that centered on a never-ending rivalry between a cat and a mouse. Hanna and Barbera wrote and directed 114 episodes for MGM between 1940 and 1957 and won the Academy Award for Animated Short Film 7 times. Between 1960 and 1962, 13 episodes were produced in Eatern Europe by Rembrandt Films and another 34 episodes were directed by Chuck Jones, between 1963 and 1967.
The first Tom and Jerry episode is "Poos gets the boot" (1940) and also the first time when William Hanna and Joseph Barbera worked together, becoming the best cartoon production team of the 20th century directing The Flintstones, Yogi Bear, Scooby Doo, Top Cat, Space Ghost and many more.
